CNC Milling

Material-Specific Machining Considerations

PEEK Machining

PEEK CNC machining requires sharp carbide tools, controlled feed rates, and effective cooling. PEEK‘s high melting point (343°C) means it can tolerate higher cutting speeds than other engineering plastics, but thermal expansion must be managed for tight tolerances.

POM Machining

POM is one of the easiest engineering plastics to machine. It produces clean chips, achieves excellent surface finishes, and tolerates a wide range of cutting parameters. POM is ideal for high-volume machined parts.

PPS Machining

Glass-filled PPS (PPS GF40) is abrasive and requires carbide or diamond-coated tools. Tool wear is significantly higher than unfilled grades. Expect 30-50% shorter tool life.

PEI Machining

PEI (ULTEM) machines similarly to PEEK but is slightly more brittle. Sharp tools and conservative feed rates prevent chipping and delamination.
