Key Advantages of POM Plastic Sheet
l High crystallinity (75–85%) gives excellent mechanical properties
l Low moisture absorption ensures dimensional stability in humid environments
l Excellent fatigue resistance for cyclic loading applications
l Superior wear and abrasion resistance compared to PA66
l Good electrical insulation properties
l FDA compliant (natural grades) for food contact
l Easy to machine — good chip control, no burr formation
Processing Methods
CNC Machining
POM is one of the most machinable engineering plastics. It produces clean chips, achieves tight tolerances (±0.05mm), and requires no coolant for light cuts. Best practices include:
l Use sharp carbide tools with positive rake angles
l Moderate cutting speeds (100–200 m/min)
l Prevent overheating — POM softens at 165°C
l Allow stress relief after heavy machining (120°C for 2 hours)
Injection Moulding (for POM resin)
POM resin is injection moulded at 190–220°C barrel temperature with mould temperatures of 60–90°C. Mould shrinkage is typically 1.8–2.5%, requiring accurate tool design.
Sheet Extrusion / Compression Moulding
NAGOMER produces POM sheets via compression moulding for thicknesses >5mm, ensuring uniform density and minimal internal stress.
Common Applications by Industry

FAQ
Q1: What is the difference between POM homopolymer and copolymer?
POM homopolymer (POM-H) has higher tensile strength (70 MPa vs 62 MPa) and hardness but lower chemical resistance. POM copolymer (POM-C) has better resistance to hot water, alkalis, and hydrocarbons, making it more suitable for chemical processing applications.
Q2: Is POM sheet food safe?
Yes, natural (unpigmented) POM homopolymer and copolymer grades are FDA compliant under 21 CFR §177.2470 and §177.2480 respectively. They are suitable for repeated food contact including hot water and mild cleaning chemicals.
Q3: What thicknesses are available for POM sheets?
NAGOMER supplies POM sheets from 2mm to 100mm thick. Standard sheet sizes are 1000×2000mm and 1220×2440mm. Custom dimensions and cut-to-size pieces are available.
Q4: How does POM compare to PA66?
POM has better dimensional stability, fatigue resistance, and lower moisture absorption than PA66. PA66 has higher impact strength and better temperature resistance. See our POM vs PA66 comparison guide for detailed analysis.
