The Weight Reduction Imperative in Aerospace

Infinite shelf life: Unlike epoxy prepregs that require refrigerated storage and have limited out-time, PEEK prepregs are stable indefinitely at room temperature.
Faster processing: Thermoplastic composites can be formed in minutes using automated fiber placement (AFP) with in-situ consolidation, vs hours for thermoset autoclave curing.
Weldability: PEEK composite parts can be joined by induction welding, resistance welding, or ultrasonic welding, eliminating the weight and complexity of mechanical fasteners.
Reformability and recyclability: PEEK composites can be reformed if defects are detected, and the material is recyclable at end of life, unlike thermoset composites that typically end up in landfills.
Key Aerospace Applications
PEEK composites are gaining traction across multiple aerospace applications:
Aircraft structural components: Access panels, brackets, clips, and fairings that are currently aluminum can be replaced with PEEK composites, typically saving 30-40% weight. Airbus and Boeing have qualified PEEK composite brackets for multiple aircraft programs.
Engine components: Acoustic panels, guide vanes, and structural components in the cooler sections of jet engines benefit from PEEK‘s temperature resistance and fatigue performance.
Spacecraft structures: The combination of low weight, radiation resistance, and low outgassing makes PEEK composites ideal for satellite and spacecraft structural components.
